What is a Step-by-Step Habitat Challenge?
Knowing that you’re not the only one working on something, can often give that little extra boost of motivation to actually get it done rather than leaving it as an “I’ll get to it someday…” Step-by-Step Habitat Challenges are a way for us to work on a project together, but without the constraints of having to fit yet another meeting into our already busy schedules.
Instead, each week you’ll be given a set of small steps or tasks to complete. You can do them anytime during the week that works for you. And don’t worry, it won’t take long to do the steps – approximately one hour to complete all the steps for the week. (You don’t have to do them all at once either. The steps are broken up so that you can easily fit them into your schedule.)
Each step is designed to give you a small “quick win” so that you can see yourself making progress and feel motivated to continue. By the end of the Challenge, we’ll have walked “step by step” through the entire process and you’ll have completed the project that we set out to do.
And you won’t be alone as you go through the process. Step-by-Step Habitat Challenges take place within the Backyard Ecology™ Community. You’ll be able to ask questions, get help, and have discussions about the topic throughout the Challenge. We’ll be there for you every step of the way.
What topic will the next Step-by-Step Habitat Challenge cover?
Our next Step-by-Step Habitat Challenge will walk through our self-paced course, Site Assessment 101: Understanding Your Landscape.
If you follow along and do each of the action steps, you’ll finish the Challenge with:
- a solid understanding of why it’s so important to do a site assessment before starting a new habitat project.
- a complete assessment of the unique characteristics associated with your site
- the knowledge of how your site’s unique characteristics can influence your habitat goals and projects
- an invaluable document for guiding your choices as you begin implementing your habitat projects and deciding which native plants to grow.
When will it take place?
March 30 through May 3, 2026 – This is an asynchronous event. So you can do each week’s activities at whatever time fits into your schedule, but still gain the support of going through the Challenge with others.
